You can get free items on Roblox through official methods only: avatar items priced at free in the Marketplace, rewards from Roblox events, official promo codes from roblox.com/promocodes, the bonus item that comes with each gift card, and occasional partner promotions. These give you clothing, accessories and other avatar stuff for free. They do not give you free Robux, and anyone who says otherwise is not being honest with you.
I’ll go through each method, where to find it and what to watch out for.
1. Free items in the Marketplace
This is the easiest one, and lots of players don’t know about it. Roblox has plenty of avatar items that cost zero Robux.
- Open the Marketplace (also called the Avatar Shop) on the website or in the app.
- Pick a category, like Accessories, Clothing or Heads.
- Use the filter and set Price to Free.
- Tap an item you like and press Get. It goes into your inventory.
Some of these are made by Roblox, some by creators. Honestly, the quality is better than you’d expect. Check back every now and then, because new free items get added over time.
2. Event rewards
Roblox runs official events where you play certain games or complete tasks to earn items. The Hunt is a well-known example. You join participating experiences, finish challenges and collect badges or avatar items as rewards.
- Follow the official Roblox Newsroom to hear about events when they’re announced.
- Events usually run for a limited time. Once they end, the items may be gone for good.
- Rewards are given inside the game or straight to your inventory. You never need to type a password on an outside site.
3. Official promo codes
Roblox sometimes releases promo codes that unlock a free item. You redeem them at roblox.com/promocodes, while logged in.
Here’s the catch. Lots of websites post “promo code lists” filled with expired or made-up codes. Some are just traps to get you clicking ads or, worse, entering your login. Only trust codes that come from Roblox itself or from a real, official partner promotion. If a code doesn’t work, it has probably expired. Don’t keep typing random codes from shady pages.
Also, promo codes are different from in-game codes. Many games have their own codes for in-game coins or pets. Those are entered inside that game, not on the promo codes page.
4. The gift card bonus item
Every Roblox gift card you redeem comes with a free virtual item. Roblox switches the bonus item each month, so what you get depends on when you redeem.
Obviously this one isn’t free in the strict sense, since someone bought the card. But if you were getting Robux anyway, a gift card gives you the better website rate and the extra item. Our guide on how to redeem a Roblox gift card shows each step.
5. Partner promotions
Every so often, Roblox teams up with other companies to give out free items. Gaming subscription services have done this in some periods, for example. These offers come and go, and they’re often limited to certain countries.
- Check that the promotion is announced by Roblox or the partner company itself.
- Read the rules. Some need a separate account or subscription with the partner.
- Claim before the deadline. These don’t stick around.
Free items vs free Robux
This confuses a lot of people, so let’s be clear. Free items are avatar things you get to keep and wear. Free Robux is currency you can spend on anything. The methods above give items, not Robux.
There are some real ways to get Robux without paying cash, like using Microsoft Rewards points or Google Opinion Rewards credit, and we cover them in how to get free Robux the real and safe way. But a website that just hands out Robux for nothing? That’s a scam.
Red flags
- “Free Robux generator” or “free items generator.” These don’t exist. They are scams built to steal accounts or collect your data.
- Sites asking for your password. Real Roblox rewards never need your login typed on another website.
- Codes that need you to download an app or complete surveys first. Official promo codes are just typed into roblox.com/promocodes.
- “Paste this into your browser” tricks. If someone asks you to paste code or share your browser cookie, stop. That can hand over your whole account.
- Players in chat promising rare items. If they want your login, your cookie or a “small Robux fee” first, walk away.

FAQ
Are free Roblox items really free?
Yes. Items marked free in the Marketplace, event rewards and official promo code items cost nothing. You just claim them on your account.
Where do I enter Roblox promo codes?
Go to roblox.com/promocodes in a browser while logged in, type the code and redeem it. Only use codes from official sources.
Can I trade or sell free items?
Most free items can’t be sold for Robux. Trading and reselling depend on the item type and need marketplace features like those in Roblox Plus, so check the item page.
Why isn’t my promo code working?
It has most likely expired, or it came from an unofficial list. Promo codes usually have a limited life.
Bottom line
Free Roblox items are real, and you can collect a lot of them if you know where to look. Filter the Marketplace by free, join official events, use real promo codes and keep an eye out for partner deals. Just remember that items aren’t Robux, and anything promising free Robux for nothing is a scam. You can find more help in the Roblox Help Center.
